August 3, 2007
Carroll County Commissioner Julia W. Gouge has been selected as a vice chair of the National Association of Counties’ Environmental, Energy and Land Uses Committee. Commissioner Gouge received word Thursday of her appointment by NACo President Eric Coleman or Oakland County, Mich.
“I’ve been working on thei committee of rmany years to learn about environmental issues, especially water, that are very important to us in Carroll County,” Gouge said. “I’m honored that the president of NACo has confidence in me to select me to this important position. I look forward to educating myself further on water issues as the federal government proposes changes to its regulation.”
In addition to her committee leadership position, Commissioner Gouge serves as a member of NACo’s Board of Directors, is vice chair of the committee’s Subcommittee on Water, and previously held the chairmanship of NACo’s Audit and Credentialing Committees. She is president of Women of NACo and a member of the Rural Action Caucus.
Formed in 1935, NACo is the only organization that represents county governments nationwide. More than 80 percent of U.S. counties, and 100 percent of those in Maryland, belong to NACo.
